Our School,
History and Special Programs
Our School:
Our Lady of
Lourdes Catholic School is a
Parish School of the
Diocese of
Savannah for grades PreK4 – 8.
We serve students
from Columbus,
Ft. Benning, Phenix City and
surrounding areas.
By offering
individual attention to every
child, the school strives
to promote
academic, social, physical,
emotional and spiritual growth.
The school seeks to enroll students from all
ethnic, racial
and
socio-economic backgrounds who possess
average to above
–average
academic ability. We currently do not offer a program for
students
having significant learning disabilities or
emotional
problems. The
school’s diverse student body comprises
several
nationalities and
backgrounds including those students whose
parents are
stationed at
Fort Benning.
The school emphasizes strong characteristics of the Catholic school
tradition: spirituality,
rigorous
academics, athletics, fine arts and a
commitment to high moral values.
School uniforms are mandatory
for grades K-8 and optional for PreK. A student Code of Conduct
is strictly enforced. Homework is an integral part of the school
program at all grade levels, providing vital
training for
high school
and college.
Participation in religious instruction and liturgies is an
integral part of the Lourdes experience.
Our
History:
The school was established by Our Lady of
Lourdes Parish in
August
1960 to serve the children of Fort Benning
and South
Columbus.
The school was staffed by 10 Ursuline Sisters
from Cork
Ireland who
established a core curriculum
based on the strict guidelines of the
Diocese of Savannah. The
nuns continued to run the school until 1997,
when they were called home to Ireland.
In its nearly 45-year history, Lourdes
students have
consistently scored
above local, state and national performance
on standardized
tests and
90% of our graduates attend College
preparatory schools
(Pacelli,
Columbus High, Northside High….).
